Third Space Leiden

Third Space Leiden at Maxi Radio

On October 1, Third Space Leiden took over Maxi Radio for four hours of music, conversation and community. Hosts Isaiah and Lorenzo were joined by Femke and Siem, who each played an hour-long DJ set.

Between sets, they shared the story behind Third Space Leiden and their ambition to create a place where the city’s communities could connect, create and belong. They spoke about the need for welcoming spaces beyond home, work or study, especially for people who felt less connected to Leiden’s existing social scene.

Isaiah and Lorenzo also reflected on how the project began: a spontaneous conversation at Darras Coffee Roasters that turned an idea for a creative café into a shared venture. That encounter captured what they hoped Third Space could offer others—a place where connections formed and new ideas took shape.

Together with Femke and Siem, they explored what community meant to them and how music, creativity and shared spaces could bring people together. They also outlined their plans for pop-up events, workshops and community dinners, working towards a permanent venue.

The takeover ended with an open invitation for listeners to contribute ideas, organise activities and help shape Third Space Leiden.
